Starting clearing destroyed Baltimore bridge

By knl9j Apr1,2024

According to the announcement made by the local authorities, the process of clearing the massive bridge that collapsed this week in Baltimore, which is located in the United States, must begin on Saturday.

This is a process that is expected to be lengthy and challenging.

It is necessary to use a crane in order to raise the initial section of the structure that was cut by the emergency services.

While speaking at a news conference, the Secretary of Transportation for the State of Maryland, Paul Wiedefeld, stated that “this is a first step before many, many others.” On the other hand, before we start this process, it is an essential step. ?

Shannon Gilreath, an official with the United States Coast Guard, indicated that in order to transfer the area that had been cut, a crane that was capable of lifting more than one hundred tons would be activated. The measurements of the room in question were not something he was able to provide.

According to the clarification provided by Maryland Governor Wes Moore, the structure that collapsed on the container ship Dali was not a part of the structure that was still there at the site.

Earlier this week, the boat experienced difficulties with its propulsion system, which led to it colliding with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the middle of the night.

As the governor indicated, the objective was to remove an entire portion of the bridge in order to provide a “temporary channel” and to allow for a greater number of boats to take part in the activities; however, the procedure would take “days” to complete.

Considering the negative effects that the blockade of the Port of Baltimore would have on the local economy, the local authorities have made it a top priority to clear the bridge and release the container ship.

The governor revealed that there are at least 8,000 dock workers whose jobs have been adversely impacted by the situation.

During the news conference, he also expressed his condolences to the people who had lost their lives in the tragedy.

At the time of the accident, there were six workers who were working on the bridge. They are presumed to have committed suicide.

It was discovered that two of them had passed away. The operations that are being conducted to locate the remaining remains are still being disrupted because the authorities currently consider the work that divers are doing at the accident site to be too unsafe.

It is a crucial step toward permitting barges and tugboats to reach the accident site that workers have removed a 200-ton chunk of the collapsed Francis Key Scott bridge from the Patapsco River. This segment was removed by workers.

According to the officials, the workers are currently concentrating on raising a segment of the bridge while leaving the crumpled part sitting on the bow of the container ship Dali, which is responsible for the collapse of the bridge.

As a result of the ongoing difficult operation, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated that there was no date yet for the reopening of the Port of Baltimore. On the other hand, the captain of the Port of Baltimore has recently stated that the authorities are making preparations to establish an alternative channel in the vicinity of the bridge.

While this was going on, the mayor of Baltimore, Brandon Scott, responded to the racist remarks that were made by conservatives who incorrectly attributed the incident to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.

“I am aware of that. My entire life, I have been of African descent. As Mr. Scott stated to CBS News, “I am aware of the way racism operates in this country.”

“I’m worried about the loss of life,” he added, adding that he was “ignoring the noise of people who simply want to be divisive.” He was referring to the threat of people being killed.
